Why women coming together is a powerful experience
If you’ve ever wondered why women are so competitive with each other like I have, then you’re definitely not alone. The truth is we’ve had a hard time trying to prove our worth and live up to expectations for so long, is it any wonder we have feelings of insecurity at times? I came across this article some time ago and it really made sense to me albeit a little sad this is the way that some women feel at times. This was a bit of a catalyst for creating Revival Sanctuary for me as I really want us to work together, leave the insecurities and expectations at the door and open ourselves up to new possibilities.
I completely agree with this excerpt written by Sara Davidson on why collaboration is the best way forward for women, see what you think!
“The current statistics about the challenges women face in business aren’t warm and fuzzy–they’re a wake-up call. As much as we hate to admit it, gender bias, “old boys’ clubs,” wage gaps, and societal norms still exist in places and often hinder women.
So, is it possible that collaboration, rather than competition, has the power to generate stronger business outcomes? Looking specifically at women-owned businesses, I like to think so.
Collaborative, win-win relationships can accelerate growth, generate new opportunities, and provide a network of supporters to help founders through the challenging times.
A true partnership, however, is built on trust and loyalty, which should calm concerns about these fears. The reality is that nobody–no matter how smart or talented they may be–can scale a business on their own.
If you had asked me a couple of years ago, would I fancy attending a woman only weekend, I would have winced at the very thought. I try and support and promote my fellow business colleagues, men and women as much as possible but I have been on the receiving end of jealousy and insecurity from both genders.
I started my own business for various reasons, because I was being stifled and held back in employment and new I had so much more to give. I also knew this would be a massive learning curve but a fantastic journey to be on no matter the outcome. Three years in nearly and it’s been more than I could have imagined. I never dreamed I could learn so much, work so hard or meet so many wonderful people. Every day I’m still pushing hard towards my dreams and goals and it has and is a struggle at times, but there is a horizon in sight now. I don’t think I’d have got here without the people who’ve shown support along the way so thank you to them – they know who they are!
Women entrepreneurs are also a growing trend and I truly believe we should be working together to achieve more. Statistics taken from the Federation of Small Business (FSB) highlights that there has been an increase of 40% in women who are self-employed to 2016. That’s a rise of 427,000 from 2008 to 2016!
I find the above figures quite inspiring and I think we could all take full advantage of this as business owners. Who doesn’t want to make new connections with likeminded entrepreneurs and open up new business opportunities and collaborations? We should also take the other parts of our lives seriously and give them the time they need too. If you’re anything like me, it’s been all work and no play for a while whilst I worked on my business.
If you want to step out of your comfort zone in a supportive environment and feel free to chat and share stories and struggles that will help each other achieve personal and professional growth, then you’re the kind of woman that I want to accompany me on this journey. I’ve created Revival Sanctuary and Mo-2-vate Retreats which is borne out of my absolute love of connecting people and watching relationships flourish. This alongside market research both online and in person with over 100 female business owners, has allowed me to create empowering and jam packed weekend retreats tailored to your wants and needs and I know these will inspire, invigorate and motivate every aspect of your life with the sole purpose of pushing you forward.
I also want to hear YOUR STORY. We all have one, some are pushing through adversity, some are completely uplifting and inspirational and some are just about your journey… whatever your story is, I want you to tell it. It will only be shared with members on the site who can comment and support you, but I also want to show my support. I’ll do this by promoting your business across social media. Those who are interested in hearing your story will sign up to support this community.
